Interior Door Installation

Fit interior doors to their openings, with attention to swing direction, jambs, hardware, floor clearance and the casing in adjoining rooms.

Decide between a slab and a prehung door

An existing jamb in good condition may accept a replacement slab. A damaged or misaligned opening may call for a complete prehung unit. Check the swing against light switches, furniture and nearby doors before choosing.

Coordinate hardware and finished floors

Record the hinge locations, latch position, handle style and finished floor height. These details matter when matching several doors along one hallway or replacing a door before new flooring is installed.

Can we keep the existing casing?

Sometimes. The answer depends on the condition of the jamb and whether the trim can be removed intact. Identify original trim worth preserving before work begins.
