San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection assigns a permit route based on whether the bathroom work touches structure.
- PermitSF for qualifying work. A nonstructural bathroom remodel, with its plumbing and electrical, may be eligible for the City's online PermitSF process.
- In-house review otherwise. If walls or structure change, the project goes through in-house review with full drawings, which can include a visit to the Permit Center.
- Rough and final inspections. DBI checks plumbing, electrical and waterproofing before the walls close and returns for the final.
